During the Masterclass, we explored key concepts and foundational definitions to better understand the French health insurance landscape. This included the mechanisms of complementary health insurance, the value chain, and the different types of stakeholders. This introduction helped lay the groundwork for grasping both current and future challenges in the field.
We discussed the major issues reshaping the health insurance landscape. Among the emerging trends were:
Personalization of services
New regulations
The use of data
The development of digital platforms
These changes are critical for meeting policyholders’ expectations and optimizing internal processes.
Key topics included:
Market consolidation, with increasing pressure from rising healthcare expenditures that are outpacing contribution growth
System digitalization, driven by regulatory changes aimed at better protecting vulnerable populations (e.g. digital platforms, AI, big data)
Rising fraud in healthcare benefits, which has become a major concern for insurers.
Industry leaders face multiple challenges: managing emerging risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimizing internal operations. Complementary health insurance providers already play a key role in transforming the healthcare system into a more preventive model.
This session offered a deep dive into these challenges and proposed practical avenues for addressing them, such as:
Expanding the use of digital spaces for policyholders
Adapting to new regulations
Enhancing fraud detection capabilities
Leveraging sensitive data
Strengthening preventive services
We also explored how startups can capitalize on a rapidly evolving sector and contribute to health tech innovation. One of the key takeaways was the importance of data valorization, especially:
Protecting sensitive data
Creating synergies between mandatory and complementary insurance schemes
Improving the quality and relevance of data—particularly behavioral data—for preventive healthcare use
In this spirit, TNP Consultants and Future4care are combining their expertise to support innovative startups in the health sector, providing both technical and operational solutions tailored to the current and future needs of the healthcare market.
We warmly thank all participants for their engagement and the rich discussions throughout the session. Special thanks to Franck Mahé, Partner – Insurance & Social Protection, and Julien Lemoine, Manager – Insurance & Social Protection, for their masterful presentation and deep expertise in the field.
